Our apprenticeship program is an award winning program registered with the Department of Labor. Areas include Electrical, HVAC and Plumbing.
The Watson Electrical Construction Co. LLC Apprenticeship Program is a four-year program operating under Standards of Apprenticeship registered with North Carolina, Virginia and the U.S. Departments of Labor. Our program includes the following occupations:
•Heating, ventilating and Air Conditioning (in selected areas)
Under our standards, apprentices are required to complete 8,000 on-the-job training hours and 642.5 hours of related instruction for Electrical apprenticeships. Plumbing apprenticeships are required to meet 622.5 hours of related instruction, and Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning apprentices are required to meet 620 hours of related instruction.
On-the-job training is conducted under the immediate direction of supervisors that are qualified journeymen and Division Training Supervisors.
Related instruction consists of a series of training books for self-study. In some areas, structured classroom training is available. Training Supervisors in each division administer monthly written and performance tests. Written tests require a passing grade of 70%.
Our program not only helps prepare highly-skilled craftsmen, it helps them understand the why of their work. Benefits include raises, promotions, and Veterans Administration Benefits (if applicable). The program is flexible and allows the opportunity for employees to complete the program as "WECC Apprentices" and receive company certificates as bookwork only participants. Bookwork only participants are not required to do the performance portion of the program but are a vital part of the WECC Construction Management Training (CMT) program.
